What is POCORART?

POCORART stands for “Place of ‘Core + Relation ART”, which refers to an act of creating a place and the place itself where people interact with each other regardless of with or without disabilities.

Begun in 2010 along with the establishment of 3331 Arts Chiyoda, an art center located in Chiyoda City, POCORART has been holding nation-wide open call for not only artworks but also every medium of expression. Through talk events and workshops, it also brings opportunities to think and talk about the situations that surround welfare and art in Japan. POCORART thus has been committed to improve the circumstances of creation, presentation, and evaluation by building close relationship and hearing the real voices of creators and their supporters in the last 10 years.

"POCORART OPEN CALL" is one of the key activities amongst various programs of POCORART. The first open call was only for people with disabilities, but from the 2nd open call, to create more open place for people to grow together, it has widened the door for everyone; anyone who has different backgrounds and experiences, anyone from all ages, and whether they are disabled or not.

POCORART aims to create a place where people relate through art and bring up questions to the society on the value and significance of expressions that are filled with possibilities. POCORART hopes to be the opportunity to take “pure art” beyond the notion of “art brut” or “outsider art”.

◆ POCORART is organized by Chiyoda City and 3331 Arts Chiyoda.
◆ Art Brut (French)
“Brut” in French means “raw,” or “unvarnished.” It indicates free and autunomous expressions by people who have no formal education in art.
◆ Outsider Art (English)
English translation of “Art Brut”. It is often used for creations and expressions that are unaffected by the mainstream of art.
